8 Days Kenya Safari: Masai Mara, Nakuru, Naivasha & Amboseli Circuit

The 8 days Kenya safari is a masterfully paced, five-destination circuit that adds a vital new dimension to the classic Kenya experience: the freshwater paradise of Lake Naivasha. Beginning in Nairobi, this itinerary moves west to the Masai Mara’s lion-rich savannah, north through Lake Nakuru’s rhino sanctuary, east to the hippo-filled shores of Lake Naivasha, and south to Amboseli’s elephant herds beneath Mount Kilimanjaro. The result is a comprehensive Kenya wildlife journey that covers the full spectrum of East African habitats — from open grassland to alkaline lake, freshwater swamp to volcanic floodplain. Blue Lilac Tours & Travel designs this 8-day Kenya safari as a private, fully guided circuit for individuals, couples, families, and small groups.

What Makes This 8-Day Circuit Outstanding

The addition of Lake Naivasha is what elevates the 8-day safari above the standard Mara-Nakuru-Amboseli circuit. Naivasha is Kenya’s largest freshwater lake, sitting at 1,884 metres above sea level in the Great Rift Valley. Its papyrus-fringed shores, hippo-filled waters, and acacia-woodlnad surrounds create a completely different sensory experience from the savannah parks. A guided boat ride at dawn, watching hippos surface and fish eagles dive while African spoonbills and herons stalk the shallows, is one of Kenya’s most serene and memorable wildlife experiences. The adjacent Crescent Island offers guided bush walks (no big cats on the island) where you can walk among zebras and giraffes — a unique opportunity rarely available elsewhere in Kenya.

8 Days Kenya Safari — Full Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive Nairobi

Arrive in Nairobi and transfer to your hotel. Afternoon at leisure — we recommend a visit to the Nairobi Giraffe Centre or a game drive in Nairobi National Park Day Trip if you arrive in the morning. Safari briefing over dinner with your guide. Overnight Nairobi.

Day 2: Nairobi to Masai Mara

Early departure from Nairobi heading south-west via Narok. Cross the sweeping Rift Valley escarpment and descend into the Mara ecosystem. Arrive at your Mara camp/lodge by early afternoon. Afternoon game drive across the open savannah. Dinner and overnight in the Masai Mara.

Day 3: Full Day in the Masai Mara

Full day in the Mara with dawn and afternoon game drives. The morning session offers your best predator-tracking opportunities — lions, leopards, and cheetahs are most active in the first two hours of daylight. The afternoon session takes advantage of the golden light for photography. This is the game-viewing highlight of the entire safari. Dinner and overnight in the Mara.

Day 4: Masai Mara to Lake Nakuru

Morning game drive in the Mara (06:00–08:30). Check out after breakfast and drive north-east to Lake Nakuru (approximately 3.5 hours via Narok). Arrive mid-afternoon, check in, and enjoy an afternoon game drive covering the rhino sanctuary, flamingo shoreline, and Baboon Cliff. Dinner and overnight at Lake Nakuru.

Day 5: Lake Nakuru to Lake Naivasha

Morning game drive at Lake Nakuru (06:30–09:30), then check out and drive south to Lake Naivasha (approximately 1 hour on the B3 highway). Arrive at your Naivasha lodge/camp by midday. Afternoon guided boat ride on Lake Naivasha — hippos, fish eagles, and waterbirds in spectacular abundance. Optional guided Crescent Island bush walk. Dinner and overnight at Lake Naivasha.

Day 6: Lake Naivasha to Amboseli National Park

Morning guided Crescent Island walk or a second boat ride on the lake. Check out after breakfast and drive south-east to Amboseli (approximately 4–5 hours via Nairobi). Arrive Amboseli by mid-afternoon. Check in and enjoy a late afternoon game drive — elephant families, Kilimanjaro views, and Amboseli’s swamp wildlife. Dinner and overnight at Amboseli.

Day 7: Full Day in Amboseli National Park

Pre-dawn start for a 06:00 sunrise game drive — your best opportunity for the iconic Kilimanjaro-with-elephants shot. Spend the morning with elephant herds in the swamps, track lions and cheetahs on the open plains, and photograph hippos in the pools. Full breakfast at the lodge. Midday rest. Afternoon drive (14:00–18:30) for golden-hour wildlife photography. Dinner and overnight Amboseli.

Day 8: Morning Drive and Return to Nairobi

Final morning game drive in Amboseli (06:00–09:00). Return for breakfast and check-out. Drive back to Nairobi (approximately 4 hours). Arrive in Nairobi by early afternoon. Transfer to your hotel or Nairobi airport for your onward flight.
